Jewish Latin American and Caribbean Collections at the University of Florida
The Alexander Grass Chair, the Bud Shorstein Center for Jewish Studies, and the Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica at the University of Florida (UF) invite applications for research travel grants supporting scholarly use of the University’s collections. These grants are designed to assist researchers whose work will benefit from onsite access to materials held in the Special and Area Studies Collections, George A. Smathers Libraries, UF.
Eligible Research Topics
Grant-funded research must focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Jewish culture, history, religion, and community life in Florida, Latin America, and/or the Caribbean.
Current Fellowship Opportunities and Deadlines
Travel to Collections Grants: Up to $2,500
Application Deadline: September 30, 2026
Travel grants of up to $3,000 will support onsite research in the Special and Area Studies Collections at the George A. Smathers Libraries, University of Florida. Awardees may conduct research during Fall 2026 (beginning in November) or Spring 2027.
Applications will be evaluated on the quality and significance of the proposed research, the extent to which it engages UF collections, and the potential impact of the project. Preference will be given to proposals that:
- Incorporate interdisciplinary approaches;
- Utilize materials from multiple collections;
- Highlight understudied individuals, communities, or topics;
- Demonstrate clear plans for a tangible outcome, such as a scholarly publication, or other form of academic or public-facing scholarship; and
- Require travel of 100 miles or more to access the collections.

Awardees will be notified of funding decisions by October 10, 2026.
