Undergraduate Programs

The Shorstein Center prepares students for lives of success in the modern world. Here, there are no one-size-fits-all degrees. The Center currently offers two interdisciplinary majors: Jewish Studies and Hebrew Studies. Students may also add a Jewish Studies or Hebrew minor to any program of study.

These degrees will position students to excel in an interconnected world.

Jewish Studies Major

The Jewish Studies major draws on interdisciplinary sources fosters academic study of Jewish cultures, languages, history, society, and religion for all students at the University of Florida. Students are expected to develop as critical thinkers, aware of the diversity and complexity of our  world. Students may choose from two concentrations: Liberal Arts or Hebrew.

Hebrew Studies Major

The Hebrew Studies major teaches and expands upon a student’s knowledge of the Hebrew language across history, society, and religion for all students at the University of Florida. Students are expected to develop as critical thinkers, aware of the diversity and complexity of our interconnected world.

Minors

The Jewish Studies and Hebrew Studies minors require 15 credits and can be added on to any major.

As a biology student in the College of Agricultural and Life Science, I saw that most of my peers were adding minors more in line with their majors (i.e. minors in chemistry). But my advisor explained that professional schools look for well-rounded students who have engaged in multidisciplinary studies. So, minoring in Jewish Studies would be an excellent choice.
